The long awaited post!

Posted by Lynnette Cardall

Hello to all our much loved friends. This is Paul's wife Lynnette posting from Paul's ICU room. We are deeply grateful and thrilled to share with you that Paul has received his NEW HEART!!!!

The transplant went very well, much more smoothly than expected. He continues to make progress and we continue with prayers in our hearts that all will go well from here.

We are overwhelmed with joy for this gift and blessing. We recognize that this incredible blessing is a result of the love and prayers of so many. Paul continues with a breathing tube but has been periodically awake to communicate by writing.

Paul wanted me to share this statement with everyone. He writes "I am alive because of the medical team, this community, and my Savior who healed me." Once again, thank you for all your support, love, and prayers. We will periodically update this blog as things progress.

A dear friend of ours encouraged us to hang on to a simple truth and that has pulled us through to today. That truth is that "Miracles happen." All our love......

  68. 09/09/09 - it was a day of miracles! We were discharged from the room across from yours as you were in the OR. As we were preparing for our little Max's discharge Tuesday night, the excitement outside your room was evident. The nurse told me you had come across the hall to meet us, but we were out getting some dinner. I'm happy that Eden liked the hair clips. When we got back, your family was there. As much as I would have loved to meet you then, I am more thrilled that I will have the opportunity in the future!! I have been crying tears of joy for two days over "the wink" your nurse gave me when I inquired about all the excitement on the floor Tuesday night. It was such a comfort knowing that as I left my little Max sleeping in the dark each night, you were across the hall - I knew our Savior was visiting both of you each night and was never far from either of you.
Sorry for the long comment. We'll keep praying for a miraculous recovery!

  70. The happy day at last has come!!!!!
I check Paul's blog every day. Sometimes, quite a few times a day just to check on you and your sweet family. I am so happy for all of you and my heart and prayers go out to the family that has given the greatest gift of all... life a second time.

Paul, I know I have told you this before, your music saved my life. Literally. I was about to end it, I was sitting in a counsler's waiting room, when from out of no where I heard "Miracles" as I drank in the music and allowed my heart to open to the spirit, I felt our Fathers love and comfort and knew though it would not be an easy road He would walk with me and carry me if need be.

I have been blessed by your gift and couldn't imagine not having that gift around to bless others. I work in an LDS bookstore and know the Spirit guides me to share your gift with others who need to open up to Our Father.

Lynette, Eden and the rest of Paul's family, Thank you for sharing him with us, Thank you for sharing this very difficult, private, inspiring moment. May Our Heavenly Father continue to bless you.

I will continue to pray for you and your family and also for comfort for the family who so willingly donated this most wonderful gift called life.

    Bless your heart!

  72. Oh....the joy!!!
I will give prayers of thanks to the wonderful family who made this decision at their greatest time of sorrow, that they may be comforted and that the Lord's most tender mercies will carry them through their next weeks and months.
Turning our thoughts to Paul and his new heart, Psalms 28:7 comes to mind, "Joy rises in my heart until I burst out in songs of praise to him."
May Paul be blessed to have a smooth recovery!!!

  116. I just found your blog today and am so glad that I did. Lily's mom (Lily's Angel Heart) had your blog on her facebook and was so glad to read that you have a NEW heart!! I am so overjoyed but I'm sure that doesn't even come into comparison of how happy you and your family feel.
My daughter, Natalie, has CHD also called "Tricuspid Atresia" and is doing well but as you know, it's a fight. But one that I'm sure you, our Natalie, and many others will win.

  158. I am so glad to hear about your MIRACLE! They truly do happen!!! I went to Deseret Book today and bought your new CD and got the Primary CD for a friends birthday. When I put the "Sacred Piano CD" in my car I was overcome with emotion. I love listening to your music. As I drove up Provo Canyon I thought about you and my 10 year old niece, who is waiting for a kidney transplant. I said a prayer for both of you.
Then after I got a home, I was wrapping the CD up for my friend, and another friend called me to tell me about your Miracle. I am so grateful you were given your NEW HEART! PRAYERS are answered...and your family will continue to be in our prayers. Lots of love!

  190. I have to laugh about our conversation last week when we talked and you said that Lynette would be coming to the Walk for Healing Hearts unless she was tied up with you getting your transplant. I am so glad to hear that you got the transplant and I do not expect to see her on Saturday. However, in your honor and those that are fighting their CHD Batttles, we will have a moment of silence in sending our thoughts and prayers your way.
I pray for a wonderful recovery and for you to get your strength soon. NO BUMPS in the Road.

  193. I have been following Paul Cardall's blog for a few weeks now feeling heartbroken. I would tell my husband the updates and check numerous times a day for posts. Last night I really prayed for your family I am so grateful to hear that he has received this gift of life. You are so deserving of that blessing and although it must feel it came in the final hour it always seems to happen after a trial of our faith, you have been such tremendous examples of faith I have felt so much peace reading your experience. You have touched so many lives. We look forward to the updates of Paul's recovery and will cheerfully pray for you still with grateful hearts. Congratulations we are so happy for you both.
